HayaQve calls on EU member states to postpone the 8th European Political Community summit in Yerevan

The HayaQve National Civic Union has sent an official appeal to European Union member states, their governments, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the presidents of the European Council, the European Commission, and the European Parliament, urging them to reconsider their participation in the 8th European Political Community summit in Yerevan.
The appeal, distributed by HayaQve, acknowledges the importance of international cooperation and dialogue, but argues that the summit scheduled for June, just ahead of Armenia’s next parliamentary elections carries elements of DIRECT POLITICAL SUPPORT for the current authorities and for Nikol Pashinyan, Armenia’s prime minister, personally.
“This approach will create unequal conditions for other political forces operating in Armenia and will undermine the principles of fair democratic competition.
Armenia is currently facing deep internal polarization and serious external security challenges. It is therefore important that international actors avoid any steps that could be interpreted as directly influencing the domestic political balance. Democratic processes must be free from foreign policy influences that could be perceived as bias or indirect support for Nikol Pashinyan.
Any step aimed at strengthening the current authorities without a balanced, nationwide consensus puts the country’s future stability at risk and may deepen its strategic vulnerability, particularly in the context of mounting pressure from the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem.
European leaders and institutions must therefore demonstrate strategic responsibility by:
🔹 refraining from participating in events that could be interpreted as direct electoral support for the current regime;
🔹 maintaining neutrality in Armenia’s domestic political processes, prioritizing long-term regional stability over short-term diplomatic symbolism;
🔹 considering postponing participation in the European Political Community summit, scheduled for May 4, until after the parliamentary elections, when a newly elected parliament has been formed and a new, democratic, legitimate government is in place to host this important event.
Armenia’s future must be determined by its own people, in conditions of genuine political pluralism and fairness not in the shadow of external influence. Prevent the deepening of instability in Armenia and postpone the summit!” the appeal reads.
