“I can’t insist that no investigative actions are being carried out, but I can’t claim the opposite either”: Orbelyan

Aram Orbelyan, lawyer, responding to a question from Alpha News at a press conference on the case of Robert Kocharyan, second President of Armenia, addressed the investigative actions being carried out as part of the case. He noted that it will only become clear what actions the investigation has taken over the past two months to justify extending the President’s pre-trial detention once the question of extending the arrest is reviewed.

“I assume they still need to examine some of the seized materials, since the arrests were preceded by searches, including at certain companies. I think they will study, examine and carry out an expert review of these materials,” Orbelyan noted.

The lawyer also said that some procedures related to the seized and sealed materials, including inspections and inventory, have not yet been carried out. Orbelyan added that at this point he cannot say with certainty what other actions have been taken in the course of the investigation.

“I can’t insist that they are doing this, since I have no evidence. But I also can’t claim that they are doing this, because, again, I have no evidence. We’ll find out at the appropriate stage,” the lawyer said.
