A rally was held in Georgia in support of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, against which the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has launched a campaign. Alpha News discussed this issue with Artur Mirzoyan, President of the Armenian Community of Georgia NGO.
“The protest took place near the building of the Armenian Embassy in Georgia in support of Etchmiadzin and the Catholicos. Following the latest events and seeing how the current Armenian authorities discredit the Church and the Catholicos, we could not remain silent and raised our voice of protest. During the demonstration, we demanded that the Church be left alone, declaring that such blasphemers have no right to interfere with it,” Mirzoyan noted.
According to him, Georgians also participated in the rally and found the authorities’ actions equally unacceptable.
“I have thought a lot about what would have happened if the Georgian authorities had attempted something similar. Despite my disagreements with the local authorities, they are nationally oriented, and I cannot imagine them doing something like this. I was even surprised that after this incident in Armenia, people did not take to the streets. Had this happened in Georgia, the consequences could have been completely different,” Mirzoyan concluded.
