To understand the reasons behind the attacks on the ARF Dashnaktsutyun, one must look to history, Hakob Bagratuni, member of the Lebanese Parliament, said in a conversation with Alpha News.
According to him, the ARFD has faced persecution from various authorities at different points in time, from the tsarist government to the Soviet regime, the Ottoman Empire, and Turkey.
“Why did the tsarist authorities persecute the ARFD, why did the communist regime make it their target, why did the Ottoman Empire and Turkey take aim at the ARFD, and why will they continue to do so? If we have a clear answer to this question, we will be able to understand why Nikol Pashinyan wants to make the party his target today,” Bagratuni said.
According to him, the ARFD has developed over the decades as an organized force carrying forward an ideology of struggle.
“If the ARFD were not a party of value and strength, holding a place in the hearts of our people, and if it did not share the ideals of struggle, organization, martyrdom and service, then naturally, no one would want to target it,” he noted.
Bagratuni emphasized that the party will continue its work toward preserving Armenianness, political engagement, pursuing the Hai Dat (Armenian Cause), and the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
