Mariam Manayan, a representative of the Armenian Center for Political Rights, stated during a discussion titled “Citizen and injustice in Armenia: the 4th anniversary of the death of Sona Mnatsakanyan” that society’s fair demand should be that every citizen of Armenia feels safe when leaving home.
“This is very important for everyone, because any of us or our loved ones could have found ourselves in such a situation. This impunity is not ending; it is ongoing. Motorcades accompanying the prime minister, or official vehicles of other officials, continue to move at the same reckless speeds and create similarly dangerous situations,” she noted.
It should be recalled that four years ago, on April 26, a motorcade accompanying the Prime Minister of Armenia fatally struck a pregnant woman, Sona Mnatsakanyan, at the Paronyan–Leo intersection in Yerevan. However, no one has yet been held criminally responsible.
It is also noted that the Armenian Center for Political Rights has published a report analyzing the preliminary stage of the investigation, court proceedings, the reactions of state officials, government and pro-government media, as well as activists in connection with the fatal incident involving Sona Mnatsakanyan.
