Speaking with Alpha News, political observer Hakob Badalyan analyzed Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to the United States.
On February 3, Pashinyan and his wife left for the United States, where they attended the 5th International Religious Freedom Summit and the National Prayer Breakfast. Pashinyan also met with US Vice President JD Vance.
“During his visit to Washington, Pashinyan found himself caught up in the fuss that arose in connection with the signing of the document on strategic partnership between Armenia and the United States on January 14. By and large, it was a working visit, most of which took place in think tanks, Armenian organizations, etc. Usually, visits of heads of state to other countries are accompanied by such meetings but should not be conditioned only by such meetings. Everything should have been quite the opposite,” he noted.
Badalyan also commented on Iran’s position on Armenian-American relations.
“Iran is unlikely to pay much attention to Nikol Pashinyan’s meeting with the Vice President and a photo with him. In my opinion, Iran has its own ties with the United States, regardless of the nature of their relations. The day before, the Iranian ambassador made a statement that Yerevan confirmed that the signed Armenian-American document does not contradict Armenian-Iranian relations and there will be no steps that contradict Iran’s interests. This is the minimum of common sense that Yerevan should show,” Hakob Badalyan concluded.
