Iran’s first vice president Mohammad Mokhber will fulfill the duties of President Ebrahim Raisi, who died in a helicopter crash, for 50 days until the new presidential election, the IRIB local TV channel reports.

The election will be organized by a special council.

On May 19, a helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, and a number of senior officials suffered a “hard landing” in “adverse weather conditions” near Julfa, in the northwest of the country in eastern Azerbaijan.
