Iran’s Vice President for Strategic Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif has resigned from his position following a hearing session in the case of the dismissal of Finance Minister Abdul Nasser Hemmati, Fars reports.

Zarif submitted his resignation after the Iranian parliament session announced Hemmati’s impeachment, which led to his resignation. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has also yet to accept Zarif’s resignation.

This is the second time since the formation of Iran’s current government that Zarif has tried to step down. He first submitted his resignation on August 11, after only ten days in office. He said he was unhappy with his job as head of the advisory council, which was established after Pezeshkian’s election. That time, the president did not accept his resignation and convinced him to stay on.
