Karine Gevorgyan: Iran knows perfectly well who sits in the American embassy in Yerevan

Russian Iranist and political expert Karine Gevorgyan commented to Alpha News on the situation in the region and Iran’s view of current events.
The expert has no doubt that Iran will not remain indifferent if borders in the region change.
“Israel has bases on the territory of Azerbaijan near the borders of Iran, which, naturally, does not appeal to Iran under any circumstances.
As for Iran, it can do a lot, because the entire West does not have any military logistics for a serious presence in the region, a thousand American servicemen in the embassy building is nothing. And Iran has “hypersonic”, missiles, long-range artillery, a huge mobilization resource and, I must say, Iran is quite seriously irritated due to the fact that across the border of Nakhichevan, and sometimes Azerbaijan, there are various terrorist groups who muddy the waters, want to “liberate” the Iranian Azerbaijanis and to rescue them from “captivity”.
And if the situation reaches a critical point, regardless of whether it is provoked by Azerbaijan (Armenia is unlikely to do this), then Iran will take actions in accordance with its own interests. If there are attempts to start a war with Armenia, which Iran is observing now, then maybe it will cross the border and no one will be asked. This is what the Americans do in order to protect their consulate in Kapan and their fellow citizens who are in Armenia. So, the Iranians will say: ‘We must protect them, there is a war here, they turned to us and we must take them out!’
There are missile launchers – and there is no need to cross borders, they can reach and shoot through everything, almost everything… They have at least 140,000 people deployed along this border.
This is the style of the Iranian leadership. They know how to act instantly,” Gevorgyan said.
Analyzing the ongoing Armenia-US exercise and its media effect, Gevorgyan stressed:
“This is the message; 85 Americans are nothing! Iran knows perfectly well who is sitting in the American embassy in Yerevan; there is no need to even bring anyone there. They need to discredit Moscow in the eyes of Armenian society. And it must be said that the Russian media initially fell for these provocations, even the Foreign Ministry responded to this. And then many NGOs, Western representatives and even the Armenian authorities were perplexed: ‘Azerbaijan participated in large-scale NATO exercises on the territory of Georgia, Azerbaijan can do anything, but we can’t even train peacekeepers with the Americans!’ Moscow simply fell into this trap.”
Comparing Iran’s approaches in relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia, the expert noted the delicate but categorical form of Iran defending its interests.
“A delegation from the Ministry of Defense of Iran went to Baku and very nicely gave official information about the results of their discussions on military-technical cooperation. I realized that this was an ultimatum. Exactly, it was an ultimatum: ‘Don’t you dare to start a war, we know all your plans.’
Iranians are very polite people. The conversation with the Armenian leadership will also be in the form of an ultimatum. In a very polite manner,” she said.
In conclusion, Gevorgyan warned Azerbaijan against rash steps:
“The endless Armenophobia in Azerbaijan is actually destructive for the Azerbaijanis themselves. When they realize this, it may be too late. They’d better understand this sooner.”
