Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has announced a curfew for parts of downtown Los Angeles amid ongoing protests and unrest.
“I issued a curfew starting tonight at 8pm for Downtown Los Angeles to stop bad actors who are taking advantage of the President’s chaotic escalation. If you do not live or work in Downtown L.A., avoid the area. Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted,” Bass stated in a post on X.
The curfew may be extended in the coming days. The decision follows a night of unrest in which 23 businesses were vandalized, she clarified at a press conference.
Exemptions to the curfew include credentialed media representatives and the homeless, many of whom reside in the downtown business district, where protests against Trump’s immigration policies have been taking place.
