Azerbaijan has been negotiating with Italy for several months on the purchase of weapons, the Italian La Repubblica reports.

As the newspaper reports, Baku also requests jet trainers, assault rifles, anti-aircraft vehicle, military transport aircraft and submarines. The total cost is estimated at 1-2 billion euros. The negotiations have been conducted through the Ministry of Defense of the two countries.

However, the recent events in Nagorno-Karabakh now pose a problem for the Italian government.

“All contracts are still blocked due to the lack of permission from the special department of UAMA, which controls the issuance of permits for the supply of Italian weapons. According to the rules of 1992, weapons cannot be sold to a country in military conflict,” La Repubblica writes.

In this regard, Baku began to look for alternative suppliers in Turkey and Israel, the newspaper writes.
