Lavrov to meet CIS foreign ministers in Moscow

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, will take part in a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of CIS in Moscow, and will also hold a meeting with the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries, TASS reports.
As reported earlier, during the first CIS Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of 2026, the heads of foreign policy agencies of the member states “will review the results of inter-ministerial cooperation in 2025, discuss prospects and key tasks for developing integration ties, including in the context of implementing the priorities of Turkmenistan’s current chairmanship of the organization, as well as the 35th anniversary of the CIS marked this year.”
The foreign ministers will exchange views on current international and regional issues. “Following the meeting, a number of decisions will be adopted aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination, as well as cooperation in cultural, humanitarian, law enforcement, and other areas,” the Russian Foreign Ministry explained.
According to Maria Zakharova, most of the approved documents will be submitted for further approval to the heads of state and government of the CIS.
She added that during the meeting, the foreign ministers will also consider granting the status of base organizations of the CIS member states to two Russian educational institutions
