Moscow-Yerevan relations remain tense: Pyotr Kolchin

Pyotr Kolchin, political analyst, commented to Alpha News on the current state of Russian-Armenian relations.

According to the expert, tension between Yerevan and Moscow persists due to the Armenian leadership’s foreign and domestic policy.

“Of course, tension persists in relations between Yerevan and Moscow, linked to Pashinyan’s foreign and domestic policy. He’s openly provoking Russia, betraying the legacy of many years of cooperation, if not the entire history of Russian-Armenian relations. But we see that Putin, while paying tribute to the ties between the Russian and Armenian peoples, maintains dialogue at the official level, though again, within strict limits. It’s too early to talk about any convergence of positions, and the current stage of relations between Moscow and Yerevan remains quite tense,” Kolchin said.

According to the expert, the European Union’s passivity toward Armenia stems from a lack of long-term interest.

“The EU’s passivity is caused by their general lack of interest. As soon as the pre-election stage passed, the European Union immediately switched to other priorities and largely limits itself to symbolic gestures and minor decisions. The European Union is betting on Turkey, betting on Azerbaijan, and it will become less and less interested in Armenia,” Kolchin concluded.
