Narek Karapetyan has been presented with an absurd charge: Aram Vardevanyan

There is nothing new here, it is an absurd charge. This is what Aram Vardevanyan, lawyer, said, commenting on the charge brought against Narek Karapetyan, member of the Board of the Strong Armenia party.

“As we explained yesterday, the question of arrest never arose and could not have arisen following the decision of the Central Election Commission. On the other hand, such intensive preventive measures have been applied, of course, not comparable to arrest, but a travel ban and bail. These measures have no procedural prospects, and they should be treated accordingly from a procedural standpoint, including the possibility of appeal,” he noted.

Vardevanyan stressed that the charge brought against Karapetyan has nothing to do with law.

“The Investigative Committee carried out these actions, and the Prosecutor’s Office issued a statement today. What’s interesting is that initially it was a matter of arrest, a corresponding motion was even filed. But, as you can see, the absence of an arrest doesn’t undermine either justice or jurisprudence. On the contrary, it’s an occasion to underscore the rule of law and to wish freedom to all political prisoners,” he added.
