“NSS basements are meant for Azerbaijanis like this, not for benefactors of the Armenian people or opposition figures”: Karapetyan

An Azerbaijani soldier who broke into an Armenian family’s home and used violence against civilians must be held accountable and must not be extradited to Azerbaijan, Narek Karapetyan, leader of the Strong Armenia faction, told reporters.

“We feel that they want to extradite a person who burst into a house and shot at Armenians, at civilians. Suspicions will remain, but this is a step, a political step,” Karapetyan said.

According to him, the authorities must give a clear political assessment of what happened and state that they will not hand this person over to Azerbaijan.

“In this case, our position is as follows: people who raised a hand and aimed a weapon at an Armenian family, at civilians, must be held accountable, must bear responsibility and remain in prison for decades. Prisons are meant precisely for such people, not for benefactors of the Armenian people and not for their opposition figures,” he noted.
