Opposition arrests are propagandistic in nature: Levon Kocharyan

Levon Kocharyan, MP from the opposition “Armenia” bloc and son of the second President of the Republic of Armenia, has stated that the detentions and arrests of opposition figures are primarily propagandistic in nature. According to him, criminal cases are opened more for the sake of headline-grabbing press releases, which are then used by the ruling party for political point-scoring.

He emphasized that the “Armenia” bloc is continuing consultations with colleagues from the “Strong Armenia” party. The leaders of the two political forces, Robert Kocharyan and Samvel Karapetyan, have not yet met in person, but according to the MP, this is not an issue.

“There are discussions underway, and when a statement is ready, it will be made. I don’t want to get ahead of myself right now,” Levon Kocharyan said.

He added that if necessary, the leaders of the two blocs can meet in person or discuss matters by phone, and there are no obstacles to doing so. The outcome of the negotiations will be presented in due course.
