Pashinyan’s New Year’s gift to Azerbaijan vs. Aliyev’s New Year’s “gift” to Armenia

December 26 2023, 13:25

The events of the end of 2023 clearly show that 2024 will be no less difficult and once again prove that Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev not only repeatedly take the synchronous steps (for example, similar press conferences, interviews, or statements against the Republic of Artsakh), but also implement the same political project.
Last week, we discussed a new demand of Azerbaijan, put forward by Aliyev’s aide Hikmet Hajiyev, to sign a “peace treaty” without border delimitation. We also discussed in detail that Armenia’s fulfillment of Aliyev’s demand will mean not only that Armenia’s territories lost in 2020-2022 (from the Goris-Kapan-Chakaten section to the nearby areas of Sisian, Vardenis, and Jermuk) will remain under the control of Azerbaijan, but also that Azerbaijan will be given a right to a new aggression against Armenia under the pretext of “defining the state border.”

So, Nikol Pashinyan decided to present Azerbaijan with a New Year’s gift and, through the chair of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, said that Yerevan was ready to fulfill another demand from official Baku. Simonyan told reporters last Friday that the delimitation process could take years, so it could be postponed until after the signing of the “peace agreement.”
The paradox of the situation is that Simonyan also stated that no one can force the democratically elected Armenian authorities to do anything. All the processes since 2018, and the above-mentioned statement testifying to the fulfillment of the new demand of Azerbaijan and Turkiye, indicate that the “democratically elected authorities” of Armenia have been taking anti-state steps imposed by Baku and Ankara for a long time.

The citizens of Armenia are the only ones who cannot force the “democratically elected government” to act in accordance with the laws, as evidenced by the fact that Pashinyan’s authorities ignore the results of local government elections from time to time (Vanadzor, Vedi, Alaverdi, Gyumri, etc.) and, taking “apolitical” steps, seek to appoint a member of the Civil Contract for the position of the head of a particular community.

We figured out Pashinyan’s gift to the Azerbaijani people and the whole of Azerbaijan; then what kind of “gift” did Ilham Aliyev prepare for Armenia and the Armenian people?
On December 26, the National Assembly of Azerbaijan will adopt a statement on the “return of Western Azerbaijanis to their historical homeland.” In other words, it will adopt a statement that hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis intend to resettle in Armenia.

Aliyev and Erdogan received Artsakh from Nikol Pashinyan, Alen Simonyan, and “democratically elected leaders” of Armenia, whom no one can force to do anything, but they do not want to stop there and now consider Armenia “Western Azerbaijan,” demanding that Azerbaijanis “return their historical homeland,” demanding a corridor, “enclaves” and the signing of a peace treaty without delimitation to legitimize the results of the aggression of 2020-2022 against the Republic of Armenia, as well as prepare the ground for a new war.

Pashinyan and Aliyev are implementing the same political project, the project with which Ilham Aliyev is preparing for a snap election, a project that was launched in 2018 by former US National Security Adviser John Bolton. The essence of the project is that Armenia should be put on the altar of anti-Russian and anti-Iranian geopolitical process.
In 2024, Turkiye and Azerbaijan will look forward to the final action of the Bolton project performed by Nikol Pashinyan.

Only the Armenian people—the political, military and business elites—can stop the implementation of this project. There is no other actor who could stop it…
