Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk stated that Russian businesses realize that they have no future in Armenia if Yerevan chooses to join the European Union.
According to him, Armenia’s move toward closer ties with the EU has already negatively affected its economy. In 2024, trade turnover with Russia dropped by $2 billion, and losses in 2025 could reach $6 billion. He emphasized that it is impossible to be in the EU and EAEU at the same time, and rapprochement with the EU will result in a complete severance of ties with Russia.
Overchuk also noted that Russia respects the choice of the Armenian people, but urged to think about how such a step could impact the daily lives of citizens.
