The Supreme Spiritual Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church has issued a statement, reiterating its position regarding the unilateral surrender of the territories of the Tavush region to Azerbaijan and the unacceptable actions of the Armenian authorities.

The statement says that extremely dangerous actions carried out under the pretext of border demarcation in the Tavush border area without comprehensive and guaranteed solutions create new threats to the Armenian people․

“The current situation has caused righteous indignation among Armenians all over the world, and in particular among residents of the border communities of Tavush, causing the birth of the Tavush for the Homeland civil movement. Faced with existential challenges and faithful to their spiritual mission and vocation, the spiritual servants of the Tavush Diocese, led by the Primate, cannot remain indifferent to the concerns and needs of the people entrusted to their care. We call on the sons of our nation to express their just fears and concerns exclusively by peaceful means and to exercise calmness and restraint, refraining from unlawful acts. We also expect the services responsible for the protection of public order to conduct their activities exclusively in strict accordance with the law.

We also call on the authorities to listen to the legitimate demands of the people and, in the processes aimed at achieving peace, to be guided by such approaches that will not increase the threat to security, exacerbating the feeling of insecurity and uncertainty in our society,” the statement reads.
