The Foreign Relations Committee of the upper house of the Swiss Parliament has adopted a resolution on convening an international conference on the return of Artsakh Armenians.

On October 15 last year, this resolution was adopted by the Foreign Relations Committee of the lower house of the country’s parliament.

Alpha News talked to Secretary General of the Switzerland-Armenia Friendship Group Sargis Shahinyan on this topic.

“The resolution can open the door for Artsakh Armenians. Such a resolution can be adopted not only in Switzerland. There is a possibility of adopting a similar draft in other countries, as well as in the European Union,” he said.

According to him, in addition to the right of return of Artsakh Armenians, the issue of prisoners of war is also an important problem.

“It is important that the conflict in the South Caucasus be resolved in a balanced way at international platforms and that the issue of the return of Artsakh Armenians be resolved fairly.  Of course, one of the key points is the safe return of Artsakh Armenians to their homes. But this is not the only point. There is also the issue of prisoners of war and the preservation of national-historical memorial complexes. The solution to this issue is not guaranteed at the moment,” Shahinyan emphasized.
