‘This whole process is unlawful’: lawyer on Samvel Karapetyan’s charges

The charges against Samvel Karapetyan were filed under Part 2 of Article 422 of the Criminal Code, lawyer Liana Gasparyan said in an interview with Alpha News.

“The paradox is that this article allows for alternative punishments, including fines and community service, and it is classified as a crime of moderate severity. Arresting someone under this article indicates that the whole process is unlawful, and therefore we will submit our complaint to all relevant authorities,” she said.

According to the lawyer, as of now, no formal petition has been filed with the court, though there is information suggesting that one will be submitted soon.
