Trials in Baku do not bring confidence and reconciliation between Armenia and Azerbaijan — MEP

“I was a bit shocked, hearing those news coming around about a new trial which started in Baku against the leadership from Nagorno-Karabakh who were accused of different wrongdoings, different reasons,” Lithuanian MEP Petras Auštrevičius told Alpha News.
“Looks like, the menu is very wide, almost for all possible accusations against people. I think we have to follow this court trial very seriously, closely. There might be some, you know, violation of human rights and presumption of innocence, generally speaking.
I see a certain probably, you know, tendency of revenge, which is very dangerous in this regard. And, you know, I really hope that this kind of action might be replaced by a comprehensive peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. I would be doing some efforts from EU side, really, to postpone unnecessary trials and to embrace more confidence and reconciliation. Those things don’t bring long-lasting thing. They bring, in opposite, they generate sense of revenge and data, which are not really needed between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the MEP said.
