Trump breaks decades of protocol and personally welcomes Xi Jinping: what will be discussed

Donald Trump, US President, personally welcomed Xi Jinping, Chairman of the PRC, at Andrews Air Base, thus breaking a protocol that had been in effect for almost 60 years.

The Chairman of the PRC is on a state visit to the US from September 23 to 25. Mutual visits by the presidents of the two countries over the past six months are of decisive importance for Sino-American relations in terms of giving strategic direction to dialogue at the level of heads of state.

This is Xi Jinping’s first visit to Washington since 2015. On September 24, he will meet at the White House with Donald Trump, President of the United States. The two countries’ leaders’ second meeting this year is taking place amid deepening competition in bilateral relations and is aimed at maintaining their stability.
