US allocated about $7.5 million to support Armenian media

The US allocated about $7.5 million to fund Armenian media outlets, journalists and bloggers, according to US government spending data reviewed by RIA Novosti.

Washington originally planned to spend $15 million on the Media Program in Armenia. The program was launched in 2023 and was meant to run until 2028, but it was shut down two years after it began.

The funds were channeled through Internews, an international nonprofit organization that supports so-called independent media. By December 2024, 59 Armenian media outlets had received support, 338 media professionals had completed training, and journalists and bloggers had produced 805 pieces of content with the program’s backing, according to documents reviewed by RIA Novosti.

After Donald Trump returned to the White House, the new administration launched a large-scale review of foreign assistance, including programs run by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). As part of that review, funding for Internews’ grant for the Armenian media program was terminated on March 1, 2025.
