Vahram Abajyan: The 3+3 format does not correspond to reality
The ‘3+3’ format does not correspond to reality, Former Armenian Ambassador to Great Britain Vahram Abajyan said in an interview with Alpha News, while commenting on what the ‘3+3’ format actually is.
“At the end of 2020, Turkiye and Azerbaijan initiated the ‘3+3’ format, the goal of which was to boost economic cooperation, open communication routes, etc. Then, meetings were held in Moscow at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
But it should be noted that this ‘3+3’ format does not correspond to reality. What do we mean when we say ‘3+3’? Do we mean Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Turkiye, Iran, and Russia? Georgia is currently not participating in this format, and we cannot say whether it ever will. The main reason for Georgia’s absence is the participation of Russia, since they have problems related to South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In other words, this format does not even correspond to its name,” Abajyan said.
He emphasized that it is utter cynicism to talk about peace with a country that subjected 120,000 people to starvation and genocide for about 9 months.
“Let us touch upon the speech of the Turkish Foreign Minister in Tehran, where he put forward one condition for peace and stabilization in the region. That is, a comprehensive peace treaty should be signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and this is only possible through dialogue.
This is utter cynicism to talk about peace when you subjected people to starvation and genocide for about 9 months. But there is also another question. What security guarantees does this peace treaty give to Armenia? What will the guarantees of this agreement be, or what will the borders of Armenia be? All this is not entirely clear,” Abajyan concluded.
