We are confident that the canonical law of the Armenian Apostolic Church will be upheld: Western Diocese of the AAC

Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, Primate of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of North America, expressed unconditional support for Karekin II, Catholicos of All Armenians.

“With a prayerful heart and spiritual reflection, the Diocesan Council and His Eminence are closely following the events unfolding in Armenia, as our Church and people live through unprecedented times that stir a range of emotions both in the homeland and in the Diaspora.

As Christians, we believe in the will of God and His divine providence, by which He watches over His creation. In Holy Scripture, Gamaliel affirms this thought, saying: ‘For if this plan or this undertaking is of man, it will fail; but if it is of God, you will not be able to overthrow them’ (Acts 5:38–39).

Justice and law hold a central place in our spiritual life, standing as absolute values. The prophet Jeremiah instructs us: ‘Execute justice and righteousness’ (Jeremiah 22:3).

We sincerely trust in the will of God and remain faithful to the values of justice and law. We are therefore confident that truth will prevail, and that both the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia and the canonical law of the Armenian Apostolic Church will be preserved and upheld. We remain steadfast in prayer, guided by a spirit of reconciliation and forgiveness, as befits true Christians,” the statement reads.
