Deputy Foreign Minister Mnatsakan Safaryan, speaking with journalists, commented on Israel’s recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
“We consider this a weaponization of the issue of the Armenian Genocide, and we see no need to react to it,” he stated.
Asked why the RA Foreign Ministry does not want to react, whether because the Armenian Genocide is not a priority on the authorities’ foreign policy agenda, or because there is some constraint in the context of relations with Turkey, Safaryan replied:
“This has already been stated, and I have once again reiterated why we see no need for a reaction. I unequivocally share the prime minister’s view, meaning this is Armenia’s official position.”
As a reminder, on June 28 the Israeli government unanimously approved a proposal presented by Foreign Minister Gideon Saar for the official recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
