Recep Tayyip Erdogan, President of Turkey, said he supports contacts between Azerbaijan and Armenia in a speech at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), held as part of the organization’s 13th summit.
“Today, Turkey takes over the chairmanship of our organization from Azerbaijan. Peace and stability in the South Caucasus will open up significant opportunities both for the countries of the region and for the entire Turkic world. I support the contacts our Azerbaijani brothers are maintaining with Armenia, and I declare that we will continue to contribute as much as possible to achieving lasting peace,” he said, adding that the conflict in the region benefits none of the parties and has serious consequences for the global economy, trade and energy markets.
