Swedish MP Erik Hellsborn called on Sweden and other countries in the West to support Armenia and protest against the Azeri regime, Armenpress reports.

Speaking at a foreign policy discussion at the Swedish parliament, Hellsborn said the West must let Baku know that it does not accept the way the Azeri regime is treating its own people and neighboring countries.

The Swedish MP urged the West to support Armenia for democracy, freedom and human rights, as well as for a stronger Europe and stronger Western civilization.

He described the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev as a ‘dictator’, emphasizing that the latter has been terrorizing Armenia.

“There’s a dictator a few hundred miles away from here. A dictator who has been terrorizing its neighboring country, a small democratic country that has been looking towards the West,” he said.

The MP spoke in detail about the historic facts, including how Azerbaijan blockaded Nagorno-Karabakh for many months before launching an attack and driving out the entire Armenian population in 2023 in what has been described as ethnic cleansing.

He said that anti-Armenian racism in Azerbaijan has become state ideology. “Dictator Aliyev has been using belligerent rhetoric against Armenia. He demands territories,” the lawmaker warned, adding that the Azeri regime has been making false accusations against Armenia. “The risk of a new war is not far.”
