Yerevan does not react to Baku’s show: does that make Gandzasar Azerbaijani?

The peace that has been achieved requires careful handling. And, in fact, this is precisely why Ruben Rubinyan, Speaker of the National Assembly, is making no statements condemning the claim by Hikmet Hajiyev, aide to Aliyev, that Gandzasar and Dadivank are supposedly an integral part of ancient Albanian Christian heritage, and that the Armenian side, under the guise of restoration, interfered with the appearance of the monuments, damaging their architectural authenticity and original form.

“The statements you mentioned, naturally, do not contribute to establishing peace and are not useful in this context; moreover, they are unfounded,” Rubinyan said.

The head of the opposition Armenia faction called the denial of one’s own history a disgrace, noting that no government body had reacted to what happened.

“Peace does not mean denying one’s own history at all,” the lawmaker said, once again awaiting a clear position from the NA Speaker.
