Armenia’s membership in both the EAEU and the European Union is clearly incompatible. Robert Kocharyan, the former second president and the Armenia bloc’s candidate for prime minister, made the statement in a conversation with journalists in Meghri.

“The current authorities also acknowledge this, but what do they say? They say: we have chosen this path, just wait, and when we are ready we will let you know. You cannot conduct dialogue with major powers like Russia in such a manner,” he said.

According to Kocharyan, every major power has its own geopolitical interests and builds relationships based on them.

“Look at US policy toward China, Canada, and Mexico. America constantly tries to project its strength. Russia shows great patience, but it has its own clear approach: if a country is considered friendly, one trade regime applies; but if it loses that status and begins moving closer to states that are unfriendly toward Moscow, it can automatically find itself operating under entirely different terms of cooperation,” Kocharyan stressed.
