Bucharest, the capital of Romania, hosted events to mark the 100th anniversary of famous Armenian film director and screenwriter Sergei Parajanov from October 10–13, Armenpress reports.

The Union of Armenians of Romania and the Armenian Cultural Center organized screenings, discussions, and exhibitions dedicated to the director’s anniversary. The events were held at the Armenian Cultural Center, the National University of Theater and Film (UNATC), and Apollo 111 Theater.

The screening began with Parajanov’s Ukrainian Rhapsody, a compelling blend of poetry, music and history. The films Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors, Hakob Hovnatanyan, The Color of Pomegranates, The Legend of the Suram Fortress, and Ashik Kerib were presented as well, with a focus on Parajanov’s cinematic innovations.

A discussion was also held with the participation of Artsvi Bakhchinyan, Armine Voskanyan, Victor Morozov and Stefana Samfira. At the Armenian Cultural Center, the attendees were given the opportunity to create their own collages. A special exhibition was opened featuring unique collages created in Parajanov’s style with the support of Bucharest Collage Collective.

The presentation of the Romanian book Ritual as Narrative Aesthetics in the Cinematography of Sergei Parajanov (Ritualul ca Estetică Narativă în cinematografia lui Sergei Parajanov) was held these days as well.
