Speaking with Alpha News, Viktor Nadein-Raevsky, an orientalist and senior researcher at the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, commented on the news that the Armenian Foreign Ministry called the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire not Yerevan’s top priority. According to the expert, Pashinyan will deny the Armenian Genocide in the name of improving relations with Turkey.

“At one time, Pashinyan wrote that he hated his ancestors and cursed them for the fact that because of their position, the Genocides happened. That is, he immediately changed the perpetrators. And this was precisely the beginning of the refusal to demand recognition and condemnation of the Genocide. The idea is simple: let’s get rid of Karabakh, let’s get rid of all these things; the borders will open, and we will live happily. Pashinyan will certainly deny the Genocide in the name of improving relations with Turkey, opening the borders, and so on. This is the goal that Pashinyan has long been pursuing. Now he is simply starting to implement it. What will Armenia gain from this? Armenia will simply lose another core in its Armenian identity, nothing more,” Raevsky said.

According to the political scientist, if a crime has not been punished, it will definitely be repeated.

“It is important to remember the Genocide, because if a crime is not condemned and not punished, it will definitely be repeated. We saw how Nakhichevan was emptied of Armenians, then Karabakh. The only thing that remains is the territory of Armenia itself. And neither the Turks nor the Azerbaijanis will stop at this task. This will be a national catastrophe for Armenia,” Raevsky concluded.
