Azerbaijan is making new demands on Armenia that can be fulfilled under pressure — Hayk Khalatyan
Azerbaijan does not want to take even a small step towards reconciliation, Hayk Khalatyan, Director of the Analytical Center for Strategic Research and Initiatives and Alpha News editor-in-chief in Moscow, told Alpha News.
“The goal of Azerbaijan and Turkey is to completely neutralize the Armenian factor in the region. Let’s look at the policy of the same Turkey in neighboring Georgia. It is especially important to remember that Turkey does not have such hatred towards Georgians or perceive them as enemies as it does with Armenians. After seizing Artsakh, Azerbaijan could at least give the opportunity to those who wish to stay and treat our cultural and historical heritage more delicately, so later it could show the whole world how it respects the rights of ordinary people.
But Azerbaijan adopted a different policy and actually perpetrated ethnic cleansing. We see how our Armenian heritage and churches are being destroyed in Stepanakert. And the question arises: If Azerbaijan does not want to take even one small step towards reconciliation, how can we expect that as a result of their further plans, Armenians will be treated well?” Khalatyan said.
According to him, Azerbaijan is making new demands that can be fulfilled under pressure.
“Now Azerbaijan is putting forward new other demands that are not yet in the peace agreement, but if Armenia decides to change the Constitution, I am sure that these points will also be fulfilled in favor of Azerbaijan. Armenia will be forced to agree without using force, but if Armenia does not agree, Azerbaijan will use force and thus achieve what it wants,” Khalatyan concluded.
