Armenian Community of Germany will fight for international recognition of Armenian Genocide — Samvel Lulukyan
Recently, Germany hosted events dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Alpha News spoke with Samvel Lulukyan, a board member of the Central Council of Armenians in Germany.
“On April 24, a ceremony was held in the Berlin City Parliament’s ceremonial hall, where the Speaker of the City Parliament and the German Minister of Science and Education delivered welcoming remarks. They emphasized the role of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and discussed the importance of including the topic in educational programs. On April 26, in Frankfurt, the city’s mayor made an opening speech and once again stressed the importance of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide. About 300 people participated in the events. In my opinion, all of them were very successful with quite important speeches. The issue of the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is always on the agenda for us in the Diaspora and we will always fight for that recognition,” Lulukyan said.
According to him, the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is of strategic importance for Armenia.
“A rally was also held outside the Turkish Embassy in Germany. The participants demanded that Turkey recognize the Armenian Genocide and also criticized Nikol Pashinyan’s policy of denial. The problem is that the current Armenian authorities have not realized that the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is of strategic importance. And today, by questioning this fact, they harm the entire nation,” Lulukyan emphasized.
He also noted that the Armenian Ambassador to Germany had no involvement in these events and did not participate in any of them.
