A number of thoughts and judgments expressed by the Primate of the Armenian Diocese of the Baltic States are highly subjective and cannot be attributed to the Church, the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin said in a statement in response to inquiries.

“The expressions voiced in the welcoming speech of Archbishop Vazgen Mirzakhanyan, Primate of the Diocese of the Baltic States, on the occasion of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia to the Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator in Tallinn, caused misunderstanding among various segments of our society and, unfortunately, became the reason for political speculations and insulting statements against the clergy and the Church.

Some thoughts and judgments expressed by the Primate of the Diocese are of a very subjective, individual nature and cannot be attributed to the Church.

When voicing opinions on any issue, especially when there is no official position of the Church, the clergy should definitely exercise caution to avoid potential misinterpretation,” the statement reads.
