Pashinyan needs to suppress any ideas or forces within Armenian society that could change situation – Vasily Koltashov
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Vasily Koltashov commented on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s announcement regarding the creation of a coordination group for the re-election of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
“Pashinyan has found himself in a dangerous situation. It turns out that Christianity is one thing, and he is something entirely different. In a fairly religious and traditional Armenian society, religious rejection of Pashinyan and his party has begun. Pashinyan needs to suppress any ideas or forces within Armenian society that could change the current situation. If the Church in Armenia is replaced, Pashinyan will rule undividedly, and if the Church turns away from Pashinyan, society will find an ideological foundation for resistance. Therefore, for Pashinyan, of course, the Church is now very dangerous,” the expert emphasized.
According to the political scientist, Pashinyan’s main enemy is Armenian society, which holds traditions and faith in high regard. “For him, the main enemy is not Azerbaijan, because Pashinyan solves his problems at the expense of parts of Armenia. He will simply cut off a slice from Armenia and give it to Aliyev. Therefore, his main enemy is Armenian society and what can unite and is uniting people now. This is precisely the religious faith and tradition, which are deeply rooted in the Church. This is very important for the Armenian society,” Koltashov said.
