Turkey-Armenia border may open if peace agreement is signed and conditions concerning Zangezur corridor are fulfilled – Turkish Ambassador

The border between Turkey and Armenia may be opened, said Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Birol Akgün on Thursday.
Akgün noted that the Azerbaijan-Armenia and Turkey-Armenia normalization processes should be viewed comprehensively.
“Both normalization processes are proceeding in parallel. Special representatives for the Turkey-Armenia normalization process were appointed in 2022. It is known that the border between Turkey and Armenia has been closed since 1993 due to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Armenia is landlocked, and its people suffer the most from this situation. Armenia borders Azerbaijan and Turkey to the east and west, and these borders are closed. Peace will benefit everyone, but Armenia will benefit the most. We want to accelerate the normalization process. If a lasting peace agreement is signed or preliminary steps are taken, and the conditions concerning the Zangezur corridor are fulfilled, the Turkey-Armenia border may also be opened at an appropriate time as a result of consultations between Ankara and Baku. This will depend on how the normalization process develops,” he said.
