Azerbaijan never existed in history, it was created by Soviet Union — Yaakov Kedmi
Speaking with Alpha News, former head of the Israeli intelligence service, Yaakov Kedmi, commented on the conflict between Moscow and Baku, Pashinyan’s visit to Russia, Turkey’s plans for Armenia, and the arrest of Samvel Karapetyan.
“Around the beginning of this year, Aliyev decided to change his relations with Russia. It began with his refusal to come to Moscow for Victory Day and continued with provocative, baseless anti-Russian statements regarding the plane crash. This Russophobic campaign has moved from statements to concrete actions targeting Russia, Russian citizens, and media representatives. Aliyev has made his stance clear: Russia has no place in the Caucasus, Russia is weak and there is no need to take it seriously.
We also frequently witness overt, provocative displays of camaraderie with Ukraine and statements in support of Kyiv. Aliyev probably came to the conclusion that today, after his victory over Armenia—or rather, after Pashinyan betrayed Armenia and surrendered everything—Azerbaijan has power. He decided that Russia has weakened, and Turkey, the main patron of Azerbaijan, is getting stronger, and therefore now is the time to take an anti-Russian, Russophobic position to get all the benefits from the US, from Europe, and so that all the claims against Azerbaijan for violating human rights are forgotten, as was the case before, when Europe imposed sanctions. That is, this is a cold and cynical calculation,” Kedmi said.
