Sergey Shahverdyan, President of the Public Council for the Cultural Heritage Protection in the occupied territories of Artsakh, declined to comment on Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s recent address, in which he declared an end to the Artsakh issue.
“I refrain from commenting on the Armenian Prime Minister’s address. I will make one observation on a specific point. What the Armenian Prime Minister stated—that peace cannot be achieved without closing the Karabakh issue—means that the Armenian government, through this declaration, has committed itself to solving all the problems of the people of Artsakh.
If the Armenian government confirms that the only way to achieve peace was through the displacement of the Armenians of Artsakh, then all obligations arising from the consequences of that displacement fall on Nikol Pashinyan’s administration.
In effect, the Armenian Prime Minister has taken responsibility for compensating the consequences of the forced displacement of the people of Artsakh,” Shahverdyan said.
