Trade in the countries of the South Caucasus and Central Asia from 2020 to 2024 developed more intensively than in other landlocked nations.

Overall, trade among landlocked countries increased by 67%. Regional leaders in growth rates were the South Caucasus (+146%) and Central Asia (+103%). In 2024, these two regions together accounted for 55% of the total trade turnover of landlocked countries—12 percentage points higher than in 2020. The top-performing countries in terms of growth were Armenia (+320%), Turkmenistan (+230%), and Kyrgyzstan (+191%).

By demonstrating such significant results in trade development, the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus continue to strengthen their transport connectivity with each other and external markets, transforming from landlocked nations into a trade and transport crossroads in Eurasia. According to the Eurasian Development Bank, the development of the Eurasian transport framework is one of the key mechanisms driving this transformation.
