Pashinyan failed to convince Tehran that ‘Trump Route’ will be under Armenia’s control – Pyotr Kolchin
Speaking with Alpha News, political scientist Pyotr Kolchin commented on the statement by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian that “Iran’s concerns about the presence of third forces on the common border must be dispelled.”
“In general, the entire situation around the Zangezur corridor is clearly against Iran. Turkey, with which Tehran has very complicated relations, is also gaining access to its immediate northern border. And we must not forget that just a few months ago, on Trump’s orders, American aircraft bombed targets in Iran. The Iranian leadership is apparently very tense about having a foreign foothold in the north of the country,” Kolchin said.
According to the political scientist, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was unable to convince Tehran that the “Trump Route” would be under Armenia’s control.
“Pashinyan failed to convince Pezeshkian that the Americans would not be able to deliver their weapons and deploy troops through the corridor, so we should expect a cooling in relations between Yerevan and Tehran. Iran has repeatedly proven that it is ready to take drastic measures to ensure its security, so we should also expect a strengthening of its defensive infrastructure on the northern borders and a higher level of vigilance regarding the actions of the Armenian leadership,” Kolchin concluded.
