‘The essence of Armenia’s authorities is to lie, mislead, and justify Azerbaijan’s demands’ – opposition MPs

The Armenian authorities have never pursued pro-Armenian narratives. Their sole aim is to legitimize Azerbaijan’s demands and create the illusion of inevitability in the eyes of the public.

This was stated online by members of the parliamentary opposition faction “Armenia”: Anna Grigoryan, Artur Khachatryan, Gegham Manukyan, and Kristine Vardanyan.

“In an interview with Public Television on August 27, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated that the draft agreement under discussion with Azerbaijan never included the issue of specifying maps. He even sarcastically asked, ‘What maps could be included in a peace agreement?’

We officially declare: Ararat Mirzoyan is lying. During the coordination of the initialed document, the Armenian side proposed using the General Staff maps of the USSR from 1974-1979 as the basis for delimitation and demarcation. The Azerbaijani side proposed a general formulation without specifying maps from particular years.

As seen in the published text of the initialed document, Armenia conceded on this issue as well, accepting yet another demand from Azerbaijan. This means that the precise outlines of Armenia’s borders are not defined in the document.

This fact once again proves that:

– Negotiations are being conducted with the aim of fully satisfying Azerbaijan’s demands;

– Armenian representatives have failed to secure any achievements that would protect the territorial integrity of our country.

The only way to refute this claim is to publish the full set of all agreements reached. That would expose the inadequacy of the current negotiating ‘group.’

The current administration has never pursued pro-Armenian narratives. Their sole goal is to legitimize Azerbaijan’s demands and create the illusion of inevitability in the eyes of the public. This is the essence of the authorities: to lie, mislead, and justify Azerbaijan’s demands,” the statement reads.
