Harut Sassounian, editor and publisher of the California Courier, stated in an interview with Alpha News that forgetting our historical territories serves the interests of Armenia’s enemies—and that’s exactly what the current authorities want.

“An enemy can physically occupy land, but they cannot erase our memory,” he said.

According to Sassounian, the issue of Artsakh must always remain in people’s minds so that Armenians are prepared to one day return.

When asked why Pashinyan is trying to make Armenians forget their past, Sassounian responded, “Pashinyan is doing everything he can to make us forget our past. That’s why he says ‘real Armenia’ instead of historical Armenia, ‘history of Armenia’ instead of Armenian history, ‘Armenian army’ replaced with ‘army of Armenia.’ They want to distort all our national symbols.”

Commenting on the construction work near the Armenian Genocide Memorial, Sassounian added, “The day will come when Pashinyan says that preserving the Genocide Museum is a hostile act toward Turkey and that we must close the memorial to live peacefully with our neighbors. In other words, for Pashinyan, peace means slavery.”
