On the morning of September 11, Spartak Ghukasyan, the son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, was detained, reports the press office of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs Police.
The detention was carried out by order of an investigator. The Investigative Committee of Armenia stated that public criminal prosecution has been initiated against one individual under Point 4, Part 1, Article 258 of the Armenian Criminal Code. The individual has been detained, and the preliminary investigation is ongoing.
According to Armenian media reports, Ghukasyan was detained near the entrance of a kindergarten where he had just dropped off his one-and-a-half-year-old child. His second child was still in the car.
In an interview with NEWS. am, Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan said,
“My son took his one-and-a-half-year-old child to kindergarten, and the other child was sitting in the car. Law enforcement arrived in 7-8 vehicles and detained him in front of the children. He had attended the court hearing of Archbishop Mikael. People warned him that he could be arrested for that. They detained him from the kindergarten yard—in front of his own children. Now I don’t know what they’re trying to fabricate. It’s a dictatorship—I have nothing else to say.”
