Lifting of arms embargo by London will benefit Baku – Pyotr Kolchin

Political scientist and military expert Pyotr Kolchin spoke to Alpha News about the UK’s decision to fully lift its arms embargo on Armenia and Azerbaijan.

“London is seeking strategic advantages for itself, so it’s taking advantage of the current situation. Lifting the arms embargo will undoubtedly benefit Baku. Azerbaijan is increasing its military budget and investing heavily in army modernization. Meanwhile, Pashinyan is cutting defense spending. Therefore, this news should be interpreted as a move by Britain in favor of Azerbaijan,” the expert said.

According to the political scientist, Western countries view Baku as a priority partner and prioritize cooperation with it over Armenia.

“London will take full advantage of Aliyev’s desire to strengthen the army and seek its own benefits there. American media narratives and European discussions around security will be used to confirm this status. But the reality is that the European Union, the US, and Britain all view Azerbaijan as a priority partner and prioritize cooperation with it over Armenia,” Kolchin said.
