The West is trying to create security challenges for Russia in areas such as the South Caucasus and Central Asia, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said while speaking at the Valdai Discussion Club.

“The West is trying to create challenges to our security in the South Caucasus and even in Central Asia,” he said.

According to Galuzin, Russia is facing serious challenges as a result of some CIS countries surrendering their sovereignty.

“We are already dealing with very serious challenges, because as a result of some well-known countries surrendering their sovereignty, we are facing direct military-political, economic, psychological, and other forms of pressure—sanctions, legal, and any other forms of pressure. We are taking measures to counter such challenges and threats,” he said.
