So far, no convergence of positions has been observed in the US–Iran negotiation process, and the likelihood of military escalation in the region remains high, Americanist Suren Sargsyan told Alpha News.

According to him, there is always hope that problems can be solved through negotiations, but current statements and signals do not indicate progress.

“The messages coming from the United States and Iran show that the sides still cannot bring their positions closer together. As a result, the negotiations do not lead to practical outcomes and cannot continue for long,” the expert said.

Sargsyan also drew attention to US military activity in the Persian Gulf and in countries neighboring Iran, pointing out that this increases the probability of a force-based scenario.

“I assess the likelihood of the start of military operations at around 50 percent, but possible developments are unlikely to turn into a large-scale war,” he said.
