The US–Iran and Israel–Iran confrontation could have serious economic consequences for the entire world, economist Hrair Kamandatyan said in an interview with Alpha News.

According to him, the world has faced similar situations before.

“For the world, this could become a stress shock. In 1979–1980 we already had a similar situation, but the political realities and the scale of possible military consequences were different at that time,” he said.

Kamandatyan emphasized that today’s stage of technological development makes the global economy more vulnerable: even disruptions in oil refinery operations could significantly affect energy markets.

“Major international powers are trying to establish control over energy carriers and raw materials. This is imperialist policy,” he said, adding that such policies are aimed at exerting influence over countries with large resource reserves and controlling their energy carriers and rare metal deposits.

The economist also addressed the possible impact on Armenia, noting that at least in the coming days he does not see serious risks.

According to him, Armenia’s energy supplies mainly come from Bulgaria, Romania, and the Russian Federation, and at present there is no direct threat to logistical connections, since the military actions are taking place in the southern part of the region.
