Recent changes to the US immigration system have raised serious concerns among members of the Armenian community. Immigration attorney and founder of the law firm Avagyan Law, Tehmina Avagyan, spoke on Alpha News about alarming developments that could fundamentally alter the lives of thousands of immigrants.
According to her, a proposal is being introduced that could strip asylum seekers of the ability to work legally. “A very dangerous proposal is being worked on. Given that these cases can take up to three years, obtaining a work permit for asylum seekers is becoming unrealistic. This is a deliberate move aimed at making people lose hope and leave the country,” Avagyan noted.
Speaking about professional work visas (H-1B), the attorney pointed to a shocking increase in government fees. “Where fees used to be around $2,000, they have now reached $100,000,” she said.
